This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is submitted by Jennifer Neff, June 2005, who is an associate of the artist.

To career artist KAY WILSON, a day without art is like a day without sunshine. She, and her husband Dave, live in Canfield, Ohio on a wooded cul-de-sac. The vibrant colors of her surroundings, and images they evoke, are reflected in her art. Kay and Dave have three adult daughters and four grandchildren. The Wilsons enjoy extensive travel, and although well known for local landscapes, Kay is also known for paintings of favorite places in Europe, Asia and South America. To better share her work she developed her own web page.

Kay Wilson prefers working with oils, using a knife to create rich texture by overlapping thick layers of paint. Learning generates excitement for her, and to that effect digital art has been a unique challenge that she currently enjoys. Her subject matter ranges from realistic portraits and landscapes to abstracts. Her fine-tuned detailed realism shows wonderful perspective and abstracts show a spirit of freedom and flow. Wilson's sense of fun was recently celebrated when she was selected to transform a seven-foot white fiberglass penguin, Youngstown State's mascot, into a design of her choice. She named her penguin, "Renaissance".

Kay Wilson was born Kay Arlene Ridenour on December 1, 1937 in Pemberville, Ohio, and grew up in Dayton, Ohio and, on student scholarships, studied art at Dayton Art Institute. She majored in Fine Art at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio for two years; married, moved to Youngstown, Ohio area and finished her B.S. in Art Education at Youngstown State University.

She has taught adult classes in color and design, figure, portrait and advanced painting at Butler Institute of American Art, Trumbull Art Gallery, Salem Art Guild, and in her home studio. Wilson often serves as juror in area art shows. An aura of humility surrounds her, but she can boast of over 90 awards in area and national competitions. She is included in the collections of Butler Institute of American Art; Ingram Book Co., Nashville, Tennessee; Forum Health hospitals; and professional offices and homes of private clients.

Two of her paintings were finalists in competitions sponsored by Artist's Magazine.  An oil of a cat, "Empress of the Woodshed", was published, May 1995, in Golden Gallery of Winners. As one of 40 winning artists in international competition sponsored by Adobe Photoshop, five digital portraits are included on a CD packed with Adobe Photoshop 5.0 software. A self portrait and article are included in the Photoshop 5/5.5 WOW! by Linnea Dayton and Jack Davis. An oil portrait of former Federal Judge Frank Battisti is now in the lobby of the Federal Courthouse in Youngstown. American Heritage Band, Langley AFB, Maryland, commissioned 18 illustrations of fairy tales and Ogden Nash poems which are included on a classical music children's CD that was distributed world-wide. A children's book, "Penny's Big Day", by Sharon Mika includes 12 illustrations.

Wilson received Woman of the Year in Career Arts, Youngstown YWCA, 1986. In 2002 she received the Clyde Singer Life Achievement Medal in Visual Arts for distinguished accomplishment as an artist and for dedicated service to the promotion of the visual arts. She has been included in Marquis' Who's Who and in International Who's Who of Professional and Business Women.
