Biography from Braarud Fine Art:
Kesler Woodward has been an Alaska resident since 1977, serving as Curator of Visual Arts at the Alaska State Museum and as Artistic Director of the Visual Arts Center of Alaska before moving to Fairbanks in 1981. From 1981 to 2000, he was on the art faculty at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he served as department chair and as academic affiliate for the fine arts collection at the University of Alaska Museum. He retired in 2000 as Professor of Art, Emeritus.

One of Alaska's best known contemporary painters, Woodward has painted the Northern landscape for twenty five years, from the birch and spruce forests of Alaska to Hudson Bay in the Canadian Arctic. Solo exhibits to his credit include the University of Alaska Museum, Alaska State Museum, Anchorage Museum of History and Art, Morris Museum of Art (Augusta, Georgia), and public and commercial galleries and museums throughout the U.S. Juried and invitational exhibitions including his work have ranged from Alaska to Brazil and Russia.

Woodward's work is included in all major public art collections in Alaska, and in museum, corporate and private collections on both coasts of the U.S. He received an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Alaska State Council on the Arts in 1981.

Also an art historian and curator, Woodward is the author of numerous published articles on art of the circumpolar north and five books on art in Alaska -- "Sydney Laurence, Painter of the North" (University of Washington Press, 1990); "Painting in the North" (Anchorage Museum of History and Art and University of Washington Press, 1993); "A Sense of Wonder" (University of Alaska Museum, 1995); "Spirit of the North: The Art of Eustace Paul Ziegler" (Morris Museum of Art and Anchorage Museum of History and Art 1998) and "Painting Alaska" (Alaska Geographic Society, 2000).
