This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Leon Eugene Wright   (1877-1971)

Born in Virgil, Cortland, New York, he was the son of Wallace and Phebe (Webber) Wright.  Pertaining to his artistic education, he stated in an interview in 1971 at the age of 94: “When I was twenty-four in 1901, I entered Syracuse University to study Fine Arts.  Louis (brother) had entered the liberal Art College the year before.  I will not tell you of the difficulties we both had in college.  I had to drop out one year but went back the next fall and graduated in 1906.  After I was graduated one day the dean called me in and told me there was a vacancy and would I like to teach.  So I did my first teaching at the college of Syracuse.  I taught still life and cast drawing.  They gave me a room for a little studio and I did post graduate work."

The artist was also known to live in Watertown, Wisconsin and Moline, Illinois.  He died in Cleveland, Ohio.
