This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Mary S. Washburn was born in Star City, IN on Aug. 10, 1867. 

Washburn studied at the Art Institute of Chicago under Taft and in Paris with Edwin Sawyer.  During the 1920s and 1930s she had a portrait studio in Berkeley, CA; by 1940 she was a commercial artist in Portland, Oregon.

A spinster, she died in Berkeley on June 7, 1965. 

Exh: PPIE, 1915 (medal); Oakland Art Gallery, 1927; Berkeley League of FA, 1920s. 

Works Held: Milroy Park (Rensselaer, IN)); Carnegie Inst. (Pittsburgh); Medical Library (Chicago).
