Biography from Timber Stand Gallery:
| Artist's Statement and Biography
The focus of my painting is the natural world. My personal focus is that I paint what I see; what I observe first hand. For me, this is the only way to convey my experiences to others. I do not paint from a photograph of a place or a subject I have never seen or personally experienced. I feel the depth and emotion of the subject is not fully realized unless I have personally studied it. My goal is to convey a sense of place in my paintings.
In addition to creating works in the studio, I often paint in plein air and use the pieces created in the field as reference for larger paintings. It is the only way I can truly capture the feeling of place in my work. Painting outdoors is an important part of my work as an artist. My grandfather was my earliest influence as he was a wildlife artist. More recently I have been influenced by the work of Clyde Aspevig, Matt Smith, Carl Runguis and Dave Wade.
I am primarily a self taught artist. To enhance my skills , I have studied with Jim Wilcox, Cave Wade, Paco Young, Lee Kromschroeder and Stephen Quiller.
Some of the juried shows I have participated in include:
Cm Russell Western Auction and Art Show; Great Falls, MT
Ellensburg Western Art Show; Ellensburg, WA
Art Essentials; Calgary, Canada
Spokane Western Art Show; Spokane, WA
