Maryland artist Paula Waterman has been drawing all her life. Born in 1954 in Charlottesville, Virginia, she studied art for a year and a half at American University in Washington, D.C. She was frustrated by the focus on abstract art, wanting instead to learn practical skills like mixing colors and brushwork. After working at a veterinary hospital, she entered nursing school at Washington Hospital Center where she earned an RN degree in 1979.
