Born in Yorkshire, England, Ralph Whitehead was a follower of William
Morris and John Ruskin as an activist in the the Arts and Crafts
Movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is most
remembered as the key figure in founding the Byrcliffe Colony near
Woodstock, New York.
With his wealthy father who owned
clothing factories, Whitehead had a falling out because he wanted to
enter the business and produce beautiful cloth instead of the
