Biography from ArtSanDiego:
The following is from Gary Stanley of ArtSanDiego, San Diego, California:

Richmond P. "Woody" Woodson was born October 28, 1954 in Greensboro, North Carolina, and now resides in Pacific Grove, California on the Monterey Peninsula. He graduated from California State University in Chico with a BA in Fine Arts in 1987. Woodson has also studied under prominent Northern California plein- air painters Brian Blood, Laurie Kersey, and Rick Harper.

He is currently a member of the "Informalists", a Monterey Peninsula artist group associated with Galerie Plein Aire in Carmel, California. Woodson was recently juried in as the newest artist member of the Carmel Art Association, one of California's oldest, and most restrictive, artist organizations.

"Woody" has exhibited widely during his career. His works have been presented at the Mendocino Art Center (1990-92), the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art (1998), the Carmel Art Association, and the Carmel Art Festival (2001-2003).

Known for his spectacular small landscapes and seascapes, he is currently documenting the famous Adobes of the Monterey Peninsula. In addition to his landscape and figurative painting, Woodson is a "craftsman". He hand carves, and gilds, the frames for each of his paintings. He also designs and builds "pochade" painting boxes for other area plein-air painters. When not plein-air painting on the Monterey Peninsula, Woodson is an Art Instructor at a Salinas, California high school.

Biography from Galerie Plein Aire:
Richmond P. Woodson earned his Fine Art degree at California State University in 1987 and hasn't stopped painting since.  His first group exhibition was in Mendocino in 1990, and since then his work has been featured in galleries and museums in Napa, Carmel, and Monterey, California, and Phoenix, Arizona.

In 1998 he exhibited with the other "Informallists" at their first group show in Pacific Grove, California.

Woodson is not only an artist, he is a craftsman - he carves and guilds the frames for his artwork himself, and builds pochade boxes for other Plein-Air painters.

He currently lives in Pacific Grove and you will often find him painting along the inspirational coastline around the peninsula. He is a member of The Carmel Art Association Member of The Informalist Plein Air Group.
