Trained as a doctor, he quit practicing medicine in 1836 to pursue an art career as a portrait and miniature painter. Mostly he lived in Cincinnati, but he traveled frequently as an itinerant painter, covering most of Ohio and into Pennsylvania in 1838 and 1839.
As a traveling artist he did oil portraits, crayon portraits, and miniatures and also architectural renderings, a skill he shared with carpenters. He also gave painting and drawing lessons in various communities. (showing 500 of 1219 characters). |
