| Active in Huntington, New York in the 1880s, Samuel West is an artist of whom little is known except that he was a cobbler by trade who had a shop on Main Street in Huntington.
It appears he had no formal training, but his Huntington Bay paintings indicate he had considerable skill. He painted in a realistic manner, paying close attention to detail such as small sailboats and breaking waves. |
