A plein-air landscape painter and also a printmaker in the traditional or realist style, Skip Whitcomb studied at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. He was raised on a ranch near Sterling, Colorado and spent his summers in Wyoming and then settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He now (2003) lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, and has participated in gallery invitational shows and museum exhibitions around the country.

He is the two-time winner of both the Artist's Choice Award at the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale and the Red Smith Memorial Award at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming. Whitcomb has also won the Grand Prize in Pastel Journal's International Competition.

M. W. Skip Whitcomb is an artist with varied interests and proficiency in several media. An accomplished plein air painter, draftsman and printmaker, he studied at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, where he received thorough training in drawing and painting. Whitcomb believes that "Drawing is the soul of painting." He carries a sketchbook with him everywhere he goes.

Painting studies on the spot, Whitcomb heads to his studio for the finished works. Raised on a ranch near Sterling, Colorado Whitcomb spent his summers Wyoming and the wide open spaces felt like home to him. A large part of his year is spent traveling throughout the West, but he is also rejuvenated by seeing and painting new places in the world. Whitcomb is recognized by his peers as an "artist's artist" and looks to the classics in art and literature for inspiration.

He lives in Fort Collins, Colorado and has participated in several gallery invitational shows and museums exhibitions around the country including National Academy, New York; Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, Oklahoma; National Academy of Western Art, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, Wyoming; Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado; the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Jackson, Wyoming; and the Bradford Brinton Museum in Big Horn, Wyoming.

He is listed in Who's Who in American Art.

An accomplished plein-air painter, draftsman and printmaker, Skip Whitcomb was trained at the Art Center College of Deign in Los Angeles before moving back to his native Colorado.

His work has appeared in numerous national shows, including the American Watercolor Society, Allied Artists in New York, and the National Academy of Western Art. He also is listed in Who’s Who in American Art.
