| Born in Vilno, Russia, which is now in Poland, Sol Wilson immigrated to America in 1901 and settled in New York City, but made frequent painting trips to Provincetown and Rockport, Massachusetts. In Provincetown, he did so many marine paintings, he was known as the painter of the "Blessing of the Fleet."
His teaching positions included the American Artists School and the Art Students League. He was also a WPA muralist.
