| | Born in Vienna, Austria in 1846. Walter was an attaché of the Austrian Embassy in London before immigrating to the U.S. in 1878. He settled in San Francisco in 1883, founded a school of drawing, and was active in San Francisco through the late 1890s. Walter died in Honolulu on Feb. 26, 1900.
