This biography from the Archives of AskART:
From a studio in the shadow of Taos Mountain, she paints the Sangre de Cristo Mountain landscape that gives her a sense of stability in a life that has been filled with drama and change.

She was born and raised in Nagoya, Japan, and her father was an architectect and her mother had studied law before becoming a wife and mother. Her father was killed during World War II, and her mother married an American soldier and the family moved with him to Lebanon, Ohio. Her meeting with a young man from Boston influenced her life greatly because his family was so cultured, especially the mother who had studied art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and who encouraged Wilde's talents.

She enrolled in fine art at the University of Cincinnati and the Columbus College of Art and Design, and she married the young man from Boston. They lived in Willard, Ohio, where she opened Wilde's Art Studio and Gallery, and she and her husband also started a newspaper. But they struggled so hard that the tensions led to a divorce. In 1986, she headed West, and in New Mexico became a friend of Joan Potter who introduced her to other artists and helped her get established.

In her studio, she paints to classical music, usually the heroic compositions of Mahler, Beethoven, or Brahams. She does not do preliminary sketches but does rich layers of oil glazes and underpainting where the overall abstract landscape seems to emerge with a few finishing strokes that she calls "whoosh, whoosh."

Biography from The Marshall - LeKAE Gallery:
A native of Nagoya, Japan, and a graduate of the University of Cinncinnati as well as the Columbus College of Art and Design, Teruko Wilde has made Taos, New Mexico her home for the past 16 years.
