 A British figure and genre painter, he was born in Pimlico, London on March 20, 1800. His father was a member of the household of King George III, and had his son schooled as a chorister at the Chapel Royal at St. James. However, Webster wanted to be a painter and entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1820. Five years later he won his first medal for painting. In 1846, Webster was accepted as a member of the Royal Academy (R.A.), and moved to Cranbrook, Kent, in 1856, whre he became a founder and one of the leading figures in the Cranbrook Colony of Art.
