This biography from the Archives of AskART:
While growing up in Richmond, Washington Thomas Wood dreamed of being a chemist. A six-month trip to Europe in 1973 in which he visited many European museums caused him to have a change of heart.

Wood, who still visits Europe regularly to study paintings in the finest museums began his career in printmaking and pastels. Over the thirty yeas of his career in fine arts he has worked with many different media including oil which he began using in the 1990s.

Thomas Wood's subjects include landscape, mythology and figure. His sometimes imaginative and humorous work often comments on the state of the environment both in celebration and as a warning for vanishing landscapes and threatened wildlife.
