| | Born in Johannesburg, South Africa on Dec. 30, 1911. Wintle immigrated to Oakland in 1929. He had studied art in South Africa and continued at the CCAC. In 1952 he moved to Volcano, CA and was instrumental in restoring the little ghost town. He was co-owner of the Cobblestone Gallery there and specialized in scenes of the Mother Lode country. Wintle died in San Francisco on May 6, 1970.
