Born in Beijing in 1957 during the Cultural Revolution Z.Z. Wei had to wait until 1984 before he could apply to the painting department of the Central Institute of Arts and Design.
In 1989 he came to the United States at the invitation of the Washington State Centennial Committee for the Pacific Rim Cultural Communication Project. He became the artist in residence at the host College, Cornish College for the Arts, in Seattle. In 1991 he was the artist in residence for Whitman College in W (showing 500 of 960 characters). |
