This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
Nicolas Rodríguez Juárez was born in Mexico City in 1667, the son of the painter Antonio Rodríguez (active circa 1655-80) and the
grandson of José Juárez.
Presumably trained by his father, Nicolás was certified a Master Painter in December 1687 and married Doña Josefina Ruiz Guerra in 1688. His first dated works appear around 1690. His later artistic career was accompanied by a calling to the church given that after the death of his wife, which some scholars place around 1713, he became a priest.
