Bachir Yellès was born September 12, 1921 in Tlemcen.
He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Algiers, then the Ecole de Beaux-Arts in Paris. He studied with Narbonne and Untersteller, and received the Prix d’Honneur des Beaux-Arts.
He is the former director of the National School of Architecture and Fine Arts (1962-1982) in Algiers, founding president of the National Union of the Plastic Arts (1963), and a member of ICOMOS (UNESCO).
