Bachir Yellès was born September 12, 1921 in Tlemcen. 

He studied at the School of  Fine Arts in Algiers, then the  Ecole de Beaux-Arts in Paris.  He studied with Narbonne and Untersteller, and received the Prix d’Honneur des Beaux-Arts.

He is the former director of the National School of Architecture and Fine Arts (1962-1982) in Algiers, founding president of the National Union of the Plastic Arts (1963), and a member of  ICOMOS (UNESCO).

Yellès participated in the first exhibition of young Muslim painters in 1944, as well as exhibitions at the Salon Orientalistes and at the Salon des Artistes Algériens. His work was shown in group exhibitions abroad in the framework of cultural exchanges. He was invited to Casa de Velasquez in 1952-1953 during their 23rd artist in residence programme.

His work is in the collections of the National Museum of the Fine Arts in Algiers, Embassies of Algeria (Paris, Washington, New York, London, Beirut..) and special collections. 

He created stamp designs for the Ministry of Postal Services and Telecommunications.
