This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is submitted March 2004 by the artist.

Dan Young has been painting for fifteen years in various mediums including Watercolor, Oils, Alkyds, Acrylics, etching, silk screen, sculpting/mold making and monotype on silk screen. His preferred mediums have become acrylic or oil on canvas with a style developed using all his previous education and experience

Formal education includes a Degree in Electronics Art Education and many hours of private instruction with well known American artists, workshops, two years of instruction with Hal Reid, and classes at UCLA/ Los Angeles, Cal State North Ridge, Idlewyle Art Institute, and Mendocino Art Center.

Sports images have been published by Panache Editions of Chicago, which included the Official posters for 1988,1989,1990 Los Angeles Marathons, 1989 Honolulu Marathon, Bay to Breakers 10 K run as well as limited edition prints of sailing, bicycling and snow skiing.

The "Breaking Free" series hangs in corporate collections including: Giant Oil, Wagner Communications, Holiday Inn and Hunt County Savings and Loan.

Memberships include Southern California Plein Air, California Art Club, Southern California Artists to Preserve the Environment, and American Impressionists

"At one time or another, all of us have experienced a paralyzing fear that prevented us from moving forward with our lives. Fear of failure and fear of ridicule can be a prison that we create for ourselves. The exhilaration of Breaking Free of the bonds that stifle our creativity is what the BREAKING FREE SERIES explores. Horses on the run are powerful reminders of that adrenaline rush of freedom we feel when breaking through barriers that hold us back from our true potential. It is never too late to find that power within us to Break Free."

"To create the paintings I make an acrylic sculpting product with acrylic resin and marble dust which is applied with a palette knife to the image to create a three dimensional relief, then acrylic washes are applied in a very loose watercolor style. The images are acrylic on canvas 36" X 48" to 48" X 72" and have tremendous impact with the dark brown background. Everyone comments on the sense of movement, and little explanation is needed about the feeling of freedom. Viewers are encouraged to touch the canvas to examine the sculpted image.

I truly hope everyone will find the courage to Break Free.
