Biography from Trailside Galleries:
David Yorke's painterly style for portraiture and landscapes developed over his 30 year career as a commercial illustrator. His realistic work portrays traditional Native American and Pioneer life, executed primarily in oil.

His interest and appreciation for the American West began shortly after graduating from college, during a trip through several southwestern states. The dramatic scenery and colorful history of the area was so different from what he has experienced growing up in south Florida, that he was inspired to pursue mostly this subject for painting. David continues to travel throughout the western U.S., photographing interesting wildlife and landscapes which he uses for reference. He also attends period reenactments, posing models for his figurative work.

Interested in art since childhood, David studied Commercial Advertising at the University of Florida, earning a degree in Advertising Design. This led to a career primarily in illustration, but would eventually include TV graphics, props, set design as well as constructing toy prototypes for a popular doll company in northern Georgia, and freelanced as a book cover artist.

Moving back to Florida in '95, David spent the next nine years with the Walk Disney Studios, working fulltime as a designer and background painter for feature animated films. His experience there enabled him to refine his abilities as a painter while learning techniques unique to animation art. His credits include one short movie classic and four feature films, the last being "Brother Bear".

Since the closing of that studio in early 2004, David has been doing his own painting fulltime. He has been recognized by the National Park Academy of the Arts as being included in their top 100, 200 and miniature landscape exhibitions, also receiving an Award of Merit for 2003. His work is owned by a growing number of private collectors.
