| | Born near Shanghai, China on Dec. 16, 1889. Yang studied at the Peking Museum. The royal family commissioned her to paint portraits of past emperors of the Ching Dynasty. During the 1930s she lived in Berlin where she gave art lessons to Adolf Hitler. The threat of WWII brought her to California in 1938. After designing sets for the film “The Good Earth,” she taught painting at Stanford University and Chinese at the Language School at the Monterey Presidio. Settling in Carmel, she lived there until her death on Sept. 4, 1978. Exh: Philadelphia Expo, 1926; GGIE, 1939. | Source:
