Biography from AskART:
| Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Tetsuya Yamada is fascinated by the relationship between ceramic and wood and creates sculptures that incorporate the two mediums. He is intrigued by the fragility of the cool-seeming ceramic versus the sturdy, warm, gentle nature of the wood.
Yamada came to America as an adult, for the thrill of seeing something new. From 1995 to 1997, he attained the New York State College of ceramics at Alfred University, and during his classes there began combining wood with his ceramic works.
He earned a Master's Degree and then took a teaching job at Knox College in Galesburg.
