This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Andrea de Zerega was born in De Zerega, in the province of Genova, Italy in 1916.  In 1932 he and his mother, Maria Aurora Bacigalupo, moved to Washington DC where they reunited with his father, Natale Agostino, and two older brothers, Domenico and Jimmy.

In Washington de Zerega attended the Americanization School and Central High School.  He later attended the Corcoran School of Art from 1935-1939. In 1939 he was awarded a scholarship from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation of Oyster Bay, New York.

De Zerega's work first hung in the Corcoran Gallery in 1939.  His work continued to be exhibited throughout the United States and in Germany, Austria, Greece, Belgium and Italy.

From 1945-1964 de Zerega ran an art school in Georgetown, a neighborhood in Washington, DC.  From 1945-1950 he taught art at Catholic University of America and in 1952 he began teaching at Marymount College in Virginia where he stayed for 15 years.

De Zerega married Mary Crump Bouldin in 1963.  In this same year he legalized the insertion of "de" to his last name.  In 1968 the couple decided to move to Italy to de Zerega's native town, where de Zerega could spend more time on his art.  In Italy de Zerega completed the Circle Series, the Flag Series and the Series of the Prince paintings.  De Zerega also began creating his first sculpture inspired by the primitive sculpture of artist Daniele Zerega.

Andrea de Zerega returned to Washington DC in 1989 and passed away in 1990.

Zerega by Andrea de Zerega, published in Italy in 1976 and James Zerega, nephew of the artist
