This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Sheboygan, WI on March 11, 1908. Raised in an artistic milieu, Zwerg's parents were both artists. He enjoyed sketching and cartooning during his youth but chose to study architecture at North Dakota State University and earned a B.S. degree in 1931. While there, he studied art with Meryn Eaton and Homer Huntoon. Zwerg first visited Los Angeles in 1938 and settled there the following year. While painting in his leisure, he pursued a career as an electrical engineer at Lockheed until retiring in 1971. He was often a sketching partner of artist Joshua Meador. Working in a realistic style, Zwerg's subject matter includes scenes from his travels in Europe and Asia, exotic birds and animals, western scenes of cowboys and Indians, and figure studies. He continued painting at his home in Los Angeles until his demise on Dec. 15, 1992. His first solo exhibition was held at UCLA in 1988. In: LA Unified School District.
