Born in Russia, he is said to have lived and worked there as well as in France and New York.  An art review in the New York Times of June 14, 1922 discusses Zemsky's work exhibited at the Bookery Art Gallery in New York City under the auspices of the American Committee for the Relief of Russian Children.  Portrait, landscape and figure paintings by the artist, as well as costume studies and etchings were on display.
