| Nicola Victor Ziroli was born in Valcocchiato, Campobasso, Italy in 1908. At the age of six, he immigrated with his family to the United States, where his father established a business carving stone monuments. Ziroli first learned stone carving techniques as an apprentice to his father, then used his skills as a stone carver for sculptors and construction firms to work his way through school. In 1930, he graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago specializing not in sculpture, but in painting a (showing 500 of 1222 characters). |
