Biography Alexandre Descatoire
Alexandre Descatoire was a French sculptor born in Douai on August 22, 1874 and died in Marquette-lez-Lille on March 17, 1949.
He was educated at the primary school François Lemaire, then to school Fine Arts Douai.
artistic gifts enabled him to enter the National School of Fine Arts in
Paris where he obtained in 1902 the first second prize of Rome with the
help of a grant from the city. He tried again to compete for the
first prizes in 1903 and 1904.
He was the student of André-Louis-Adolphe Laoust, much of his work is dedicated to the soldiers of the First World War.
He became a member of the Academy of fine arts in 1939.
