Howard Daniel Becker (American, 1914-1995) was born 1914 in Albany, NY graduated at Pratt Institute of Art in 1935, Brooklyn, NY. Since 1941 to 1945 armed with a paintbrush and pencil, he traveled with the U.S. Army to North Africa, Italy and France, producing hundreds of water color sketches of U.S. Army forces, war damage and civilian life. He won several Army art contests, and also found favor with Colonel R. Hunter Clarcson, who rewarded him with a week in Paris, to paint.
