Biography James Sherman
Born in Maxwell, Iowa, Sherman grew up in Colorado where is father was a wheat grower and rancher. Sherman's interest in drawing took him to Kansas City in the 1920's where he studied at the Art Institute.
Following graduation from the Kansas City Art Institute he traveled to New York City where he attended the Art Students League and met Thomas Hart Benton. Sherman subsequently studied both drawing and painting with Benton.
During his art career Sherman exhibited at the 1939 World's Fair, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Library of Congress, the Denver Art Museum and numerous Galleries in New York City.
