Walter George (1871-1924)
Following his studies at the Leipzig art academy, Walter Georgi also visited the art academies in Dresden and Munich during the 1890s. In 1896, he works as an illustrator for the ‘Simplicissimus’ and the ‘Jugend’. In 1899, he is one of the founding members of the Munich artist association ‘Scholle’. Between 1908 and 1919, he is a professor at the art academy of Karlsruhe and is member of the Werkbund in 1912. In his activity as an illustrator, he designs from 1914 a range of field-postards for the bakery Bahlsen. One year after his death, the Kunstverein Leipzig remembered with a memorial exhibition the work of native Leipzig painter.
