The Irish American painter, educator, stained-glass artist and architect William T. L. Armstrong was born in Belfast, Ireland in 1881. He moved to the United States when he was five.
Armstrong was employed in the United States by the famed architectural firm of Carrere & Hastings. In 1912, with Peter De Gelleke, he started his own firm, De Gelleke and Armstrong, with an office in New York City.
In addition to his architectural work, he painted in watercolor and oil. He received awards from the American Watercolor Society, the Montclair Art Museum, the Plainfield Art Club and the Newark Art Club
