Born in Indiana on Jan. 26, 1851. Madame Hanique settled on the Monterey Peninsula in 1900 and established a home in Carmel. Her paintings were "large weird canvases of groups of near-nudes on the beach in moonlight." She died in Oakland, CA on Aug. 24, 1930.
