Born in Ohio on Jan. 1, 1850. Mary was the wife of Marvin Higgins. After moving to Los Angeles in 1884, she was "leader of the Ruskin Art Club." Her husband having been elected state treasurer, the couple settled in Sacramento in 1892. After building a home on what is now the site of the Hotel Senator, she became active in the local art scene and was founder and first president of the Kingsley Art Club. Mrs. Higgins died in Palo Alto, CA on Feb. 26, 1944.
