Ernst Beck

Biography from Auctionata

Ernst Eck (1879-1941) studied under the guidance of Joseph Eugen Hörwarter at the Graphische Lehr and Versuchsanstalt in Vienna.  From 1897-1905 he attended the ABK and was a student of Alois Delug, among others.  In 1905, a scholarship brought him to Paris.  From 1917-18, he studied sculpture under Edmund von Hellmer.

From 1910 to 1939, he was a member of the Vienna Secession and then of the Künstlerhaus.  Trips have taken him throughout Europe, India, Java and Australia.

Eck painted landscapes, especially in Lower Austria, and animals, most notably exotic birds.  Besides his paintings he created poster designs, which, among others, were on display at the International Poster Exhibition of the Vienna Secession.
