Biography Charles Yuen
Born in Hawaii, he cites influences on his artwork as 16th century Persian miniatures and medieval court scenes, especially jesters that are prevalent in his painting. Much of his work is large-scale and cartoon-like and are filled with scribblings that appear to be nonsensical and rambling. Of his work, a reviewer in "Art in America" 10/98 wrote: "He is a merry mocker of popular notions of the dark or shadow side of the psyche. . . .they invite our complicity in their on-canvas revolt against conventions." A special exhibition of his painting was held fall, 1998 at Elizabeth Harris Gallery in New York City.
