Doris Statham paints using the name of Dea Berg. She died July 12, 1994. Berg was born in Oakland on September 11, 1908 and raised in the Bay Area city of Alameda. She studied music and science at Berkeley and eventually taught organic chemistry at UC San Francisco. She spoke nine languages fluently.
