Born in New York on June 20, 1916. Shelton moved to southern California as a child. He was a tennis star and art major while at Pomona College in 1936-38. At that school he won a scholarship for further study at Scripps College. With a degree in scientific illustration, he began his career as a cartographer. He spent his later years in Colorado. He died in Golden, CO on Nov. 2, 2004.
