Biography Hans Schmitt
Hans Schmitt (1912-1998) was born in Frankfurt am Main. Hans Schmitt began his artistic career in the late 1950s. With his sculptures from wood and waste parts, he achieved international recognition. Schmitt's works are often subsumed under the terms 'Naïve Art', 'Art Brut' and 'Outsider Art'. They show influences of Cubism, German Expressionim and Constructivism. As well, elements of the comic, the photography, the consumerism and the popular culture are recognizable in his works.
Hans Schmitt exhibited at the 2001 Venice Biennale. Numerous works of the artist are today part of public and private collections, including the collections of Buchheim and Schaffner. (cko)
