Biography Ignaz Epper
Ignaz Epper grew up in modest circumstances, and initially trained as an embroidery designer.
In 1912/13 he spent several months in Munich and Weimar and received a scholarship in Switzerland based on his drawings. He followed intensive years of studies in which he made the acquaintance with his future sponsor Han Coray (1880-1974).
Epper regularly participated in exhibitions of the GSMBA and in Zurich galleries and became a member of the graphic arts roller as well as of the graphic cabinet.
In 1932 he moved to Ascona, where he maintained relations with the Eranos Circle and voluntarily left life in 1969.
Epper is regarded as the main representative of the Swiss expressionists.
