Biography Isabel Hunter
Born to Irish immigrants in San Francisco, Isabel Hunter became a
painter of still lifes, and scenes of the Bay area and northern
California. She was also an illustrator for Sunset
magazine. She was raised in San Francisco until she was age
twelve and then moved to Alameda, which remained her home most of her
life. However, after the fire and earthquake in 1906, she
lived in Monterey from 1907 to 1918, and continued to visit there after
she had re-settled in Alameda. One of her early paintings, 1897, Old Custom House at Monterey, was exhibited at the San Francisco Art Association.
