The following information was submitted in September of 2006 by a boyhood neighbor, Gerry McCracken:
Born and raised in Harlansburg, Pennsylvania, he became an employee of the Pennsylvania Power Company before he left for New York at age 20, to study art. He studied at the Woodstock Summer School of the Art Students League with historical illustrator Frank Riley, among others.
Allison started out with illustrating covers for paperback books, but then created historical paintings which appeared in calendars by the Esso Corporation. He also did illustrations for Reader's Digest, General Electric, the National Broadcasting Company, and others.
