Born in Oakland, CA on Sept. 3, 1895. Patterson was raised and educated in Oakland. Having opted for an art career, he studied at the CSFA and CCAC. He finalized his training in NYC at the ASL and, while there, was employed as art director for an advertising agency. During the 1920s he worked in San Francisco at Shreve's as a designer of jewelry and silverware before establishing his own advertising art firm. During his leisure he painted landscapes, portraits, and still lifes in watercolor, oil, and acrylic. His last years were spent in Walnut Creek, CA where he died on Sept. 20, 1973.
