Georg Karl Pfahler received his
first artistic training at the Nuremberg Art Academy in 1948, which was
followed by further classes at the Art Academy in Stuttgart, until 1954.
His teachers were Manfred Henninger, Karl Hils, Gerhard Gollwitzer and
Willi Baumeister, who deeply influenced his early works. In 1956,
Pfahler was involved in the founding of the ‘Group 11’ in Stuttgart,
whose members were inspired by Action Painting and the Informel. In the
late 1950s, Pfahler was highly interested in ‘Formative Art’ and finally
focused on the so called ‘Hard Edge’ movement.
