KEN PATECKY
One might not think of concrete as a particularly attractive material, especially for carving into sculpture. Ken Patecky's mastery of his craft, however, reveals the rare beauty hidden in this otherwise common medium.

Patecky began experimenting with concrete in the 1960's. By trying various combinations of sand, cement and aggregates, he perfected his technique of carving sculpture out of blocks of premature concrete. In his designs, he must make concessions to the nature of the material and treat it as a stone. For that reason, the finished pieces are massive and compact.
