Biography Mary Sarg
Mary Sarg was born in London, the daughter of artist, illustrator and puppeteer, Tony Sarg. She first studied with her father, then enrolled at the Art Students League, the New York School of Applied Design for Women and the American School of Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, near Paris. She also studied privately with Jonas Lie for three years.
By the early 1920's, Mary Sarg lived with her parents in Nantucket where her father had a shop selling his own crafts and art work. In the winter months, the Sarg family would come to New Hope. From 1938-1958, Mary Sarg resided in New Hope where she owned and operated a shop selling her own designs on fabrics, wallpaper and many other decorated objects. Whil
