Biography   Raymond Phillips Sanderson


Born at Bowling Green, Missouri, Raymond Phillips Sanderson spent the major part of his art career in Arizona where he was known for wood and bronze sculpture and mural painting.

Among places holding his work are the Valley National Banks, the Symphony Hall in Tempe, and the War Memorial at the University of Arizona in Tucson.  Leaving Chicago in 1932, he lived first in Bisbee and later became a resident of Scottsdale.  In 1973, a retrospective of his work was held at the Arizona State Art Museum.

He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Kansas City Art Institute.  In 1935, as a WPA artist, he completed a life-size figure sculpture titled The Arizona Miner, (also known as Copper Man) which was   ...  Displaying 750 of 2126 characters.
