Sarah Stilwell (1878-1939), known also as Sarah S. Stilwell Weber or simply "SSS," created an illustrated world of delightful small children.
A student of the master of Golden Age Illustration Howard Pyle (1853-1911), she became a friend of Pyle's sister Katharine Pyle (1863-1938), also a children's book illustrator, writer and poet.
Stilwell illustrated some of Katharine Pyle's stories and poems for Harper's Bazaar in the early 1900s. She produced story illustrations for Scribners, and by 1909, cover art for Saturday Evening Post.
Prolific in her early years, Stilwell's output diminished in the late 1920s.
