Painting has been my passion since I first started drawing and painting at the age of four or five years old. Born in Mauritius in 1961, at the age of nine I got a Shankar Medal for a painting, as one of 200 winners out of 150,000 entrants, and at the age of fifteen I won first prize in Fine Art at the Mahama Ghandi Institute, the largest art school in the country, even though I wasn’t enrolled there — basically, I’m self-taught.
